  21. * NOAA-14 EXPERIENCES FAILURE *
  22. ===============================
  23. The motor for the Microwave Sounding Unit on the NOAA-14 spacecraft has
  24. stopped working, investigation into the failure is in progress.  Records
  25. show the unit is from a delivery made to Martin Marietta dating back to
  26. 1984.  Future NOAA spacecraft will not have this same unit--it will be
  27. replaced with a different type.  NOAA-14 has been in orbit since last
  28. December.

  33. * MIR NEWS *
  34. ============
  35. Astrounaut Dr. Norm Thagard and two cosmonauts were launched to Mir last 
  36. Monday and docked with Mir on Thursday.  Joe Dreifuss, WA2GSY reported
  37. contacting Dr. Thagard on Friday morning at 14:27 UTC on 2-meters.  He was
  38. using R0MIR as his callsign.  Joe reported the downlink signal from Mir was
  39. very strong and easily heard even on an HT with a rubber duck antenna.

  42. * UNAMSAT-1 NEWS *
  43. ==================
  44. The UNAMSAT-1 spacecraft has arrived in Moscow for a launch from Plesetsk
  45. on 28-Mar-95.  The launch window begins at 05:00 UTC and ends at 10:00 UTC.
  46. UNAMSAT-1 will be carried along with TECHSAT and a Russian communiations
  47. satellite on a Start-1 rocket.

  49. The following are the UNAMSAT-1 operating frequencies:

  51. TX1   * default *    437.135 MHz
  52. TX2                  437.179 MHz
  53.  
  54. Telemetry transmissions will start 20 minutes after separation.  If the
  55. software survives the launch, the beacon will transmit normal telemetry, 
  56. otherwise the mailbox will be in operation.

  58. The Rx freqs are:
  59. Channel A   145.922 MHz
  60. Channel B   145.942 MHz
  61. Channel C   145.962 MHz
  62. Channel E/F 145.872 MHz
  63.  
  64. (Channel  D  is non-existant)

  66. The receiver will be closed for use other than commanding the spacecraft,
  67. but controllers will let make it known when the satellite is available for
  68. use as soon as possible.
